Which Dynasty Should I Create

134 Options

Picking a team in EA Sports College Football 25 to start your first dynasty will be a hefty task.  A great selection here will turn a 5 year dynasty from a casual playthrough into an epic tale of building the greatest football dynasty we will see since Saban retired.  But with so many choices, how do you choose?  Well let the boys here at Power Option Podcast help you with our tier list of teams that YOU should choose to start your dynasty.

How these teams were rated

These teams were rated on 6 different categories.

  1. Amount of Claimed* National Championships
  2. Most Recent Claimed National Championship
  3. Amount of Bowls Played
  4. Most Recent Bowl Game
  5. Amount of Heisman Winners
  6. Number of BCS & Playoff Appearances
  7. And Potential Matchup Quality

*The amount of national titles the school claims (from Wikipedia).

For items 1-6, the more or more recent, the worst ranking the team got.  For item #6 the team got a better ranking for being in a conference that either had the chance of more quality teams/matchups, or afforded a better opportunity to have quality games that would help playoff ranking/seeding.  Also the Armed Forces teams (Army, Navy, Air Force) got a better ranking for the Commander-in-Chief trophy and the Army/Navy game – why? Just because.

Teams are broken down by Tiers listed from worst to best – grouped to give you some options.

Tier 5: The Big Boys

The teams at this tier are generally teams that have been good from the BCS era until now, with some extra credit for historic accomplishments.  Also… Alabama.

NOTABLE Teams

Pittsburgh Panthers (ACC)

  • Claimed Titles/Most Recent: 9 / 1976
  • Bowls/Most Recent: 37 / 2022 Sun Bowl
  • BCS & Playoff Appearances: 1
  • Heisman Winners: 1
  • Pitt is mostly in this tier on the strength of their amount of titles and bowl games.  This is a team that is here more for legacy than recent success, but one of probably the best value choices in this tier.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (ACC)

  • Claimed Titles/Most Recent: 4 / 1990
  • Bowls/Most Recent: 46 / 2023 Gasparilla Bowl
  • BCS & Playoff Appearances: 1
  • Heisman Winners: 0
  • Four claimed national championships and one in the 90s means they have been pretty decent for a good chunk of recent history.  A team that would make for a fun powerhouse build, plus Clean, Old Fashioned Hate.

ACC: Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, Pittsburgh

Big Ten: Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, USC, Washington

Ind: Notre Dame

SEC: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas

Tier 4: ALMOST THERE

The teams at this tier have had their moments, either in small runs of past greatness or consistant performance.  A better group to select from if you want some foundation and history but still can create a quality all time run that won’t be overshadowed.

NOTABLE Teams

Colorado Golden Buffaloes (Big 12)

  • Claimed Titles/Most Recent: 1 / 1990
  • Bowls/Most Recent: 30 / 2020 Alamo Bowl
  • BCS & Playoff Appearances: 1
  • Heisman Winners: 1
  • You can kinda see why Deion would pick a team like this – it’s big enough to be able to build something, but has lots of space to make the school your legacy.  (They are a borderline Tier 3 team)

Texas A&M Aggies (SEC)

  • Claimed Titles/Most Recent: 3 / 1939
  • Bowls/Most Recent: 43/ 2023 Texas Bowl
  • BCS & Playoff Appearances: 1
  • Heisman Winners: 2
  • Some strong history here even with the length of time of the last title.  Have had flashes of high relevance but would still be more of a “surprise” of the teams with resources.

ACC: Cal, Stanford, Virginia Tech

Big 12: Colorado, TCU, UCF, West Virginia

Big Ten: Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Oregon, Wisconsin

Mountain West: Boise State

Pac-12: Oregon State, Washington State

SEC: Texas A&M

Tier 3: The MIDDLE

The teams in this tier are going to be decent choices.  I kind feel like these are second job choices that you go to after going to one of the lower tier schools, but there some varied circumstances in the group.

NOTABLE Teams

Louisville Cardinals (ACC)

  • Claimed Titles/Most Recent: 0 / 0
  • Bowls/Most Recent: 26/ 2023 Holiday Bowl
  • BCS & Playoff Appearances: 2
  • Heisman Winners: 1
  • Most of the ACC is here and Louisville is probably the best of the programs at this level.  Obviously have some strengths that allow them to build strong teams and has never been super terrible, but a good place to build a dynasty.

BYU Cougars (Big 12)

  • Claimed Titles/Most Recent: 1 / 1984
  • Bowls/Most Recent: 40 / 2022 New Mexico Bowl
  • BCS & Playoff Appearances: 0
  • Heisman Winners: 1
  • The team with the most recent claimed national championship in this group, but a team looking for their identity again after years of being throw the ball U.

ACC: Louisville, SMU, Syracuse

American Athletic: Army, Navy, Tulsa

Big 12: Baylor, BYU, Cincinnati, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Utah

Big Ten: Minnesota

Conference USA: Louisiana Tech, UTEP

Mid-American: Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Miami (OH), Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo, Western Michigan

Mountain West: Fresno State, Hawaii

SEC: Arkansas, Ole Miss

Sun Belt: Southern Mississippi

Tier 2: really good value

This tier mostly includes teams that would be tier 1 except they either went to a recent bowl, or had some past history, or lost some points for being in the MAC (sorry MAC I love you)

NOTABLE Teams

UCLA Bruins (Big Ten)

  • Claimed Titles/Most Recent: 1 / 1954
  • Bowls/Most Recent: 38 / LA Bowl
  • BCS & Playoff Appearances: 1
  • Heisman Winners: 1
  • UCLA is a decent brand in one of the two super power conferences, that should have great games on the schedule and has room for you as their coach to build what would be a celebrated dynasty on the level of USC or Georgia now.

Old Dominion Monarchs (Sun Belt)

  • Claimed Titles/Most Recent: 0/ 0
  • Bowls/Most Recent: 3 / 2023 Famous Toastery Bowl
  • BCS & Playoff Appearances: 0
  • Heisman Winners: 0
  • Really good choice in this tier if you aren’t planning to go rock bottom.

ACC: Boston College, Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia, Wake Forest

American Athletic: East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, North Texas, Rice, South Florida, Tulane, UAB, UTSA

Big 12: Arizona, Arizona State, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas

Big Ten: Maryland, Purdue, UCLA

Conference USA: FIU, Jacksonville State, Liberty, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico State, Western Kentucky

Indies: UConn

Mid-American: Akron, Ball State, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Kent State

Mountain West: Air Force, Colorado State, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, Utah State, Wyoming

SEC: Kentucky, Mississippi State, Missouri, South Carolina

Sun Belt: App State, Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, James Madison, Louisiana, Marshall, Old Dominion, South Alabama, Texas State, Troy

Tier 1: THE BEST CHOICES

This is what science has deemed the best teams for you to pick for your Dynasty.  The worst of the best or the teams with no real history to draw from. These are the schools that will name the stadium after you and build you a statue and let you run the town forever.

NOTABLE Teams

Temple Owls (American)

  • Claimed Titles/Most Recent: 0 / 0
  • Bowls/Most Recent: 9 / 2019 Military Bowl
  • BCS & Playoff Appearances: 0
  • Heisman Winners: 0
  • Well Temple seems to almost be a competent program, but just never seem to get it together.  If you build a winner at the Linc in Philly, you become a hero for eternity.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights (Big Ten)

  • Claimed Titles/Most Recent: 1 / 1869
  • Bowls/Most Recent: 11 / 2023 Pinstripe Bowl
  • BCS & Playoff Appearances: 0
  • Heisman Winners: 0
  • I could have put Vandy here instead, they are functionally the same team, a bad team in a quality conference.  Go have fun with them and beat the big boys.

American Athletic: Charlotte, Temple

Big Ten: Indiana, Northwestern, Rutgers

Conference USA: Kennesaw State, Sam Houston State

Indies: UMass

Mountain West: New Mexico

SEC: Vandy

Sun Belt: Louisiana Monroe
